On Thursday 23 March, Dr Robert Fisk, the world-famous journalist of The Independent, was in Ghent to receive an honorary PhD and to give a lecture at Vooruit about his most recent book 'The Great War for Civilisation: The Conquest of the Middle-East'. Fisk has been a war correspondent in the Middle East for thirty years now and has always been the critical voice in the desert. Literally, but sometimes otherwise too. Being a witness to many crucial moments in history, Fisk is somebody who is worth listening to.
I did not manage to attend his lecture, but I was really glad to notice it can be listened to on Indymedia (the lecture is divided into part 1 and part 2). It is strange to discover yet again that what is presented as news is not always a true picture of reality. But then again: did we need Fisk to know that... Still: definitely worth a listen!
