It was awefully quiet for some time around Pulp frontman and modern-day hero Jarvis Cocker, but he's back alright. Not with a normal cd release, but with the one thing that every young artist looking for a breakthrough (think Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Arctic Monkeys and Lily Allen) is currently doing: putting out new work on MySpace.
In his new single, he's still his subtle self. The title says it all: (Cunts are still) running the world. On his MySpace corner he mentions that "I wanted you to hear it now cos it's exactly 1 year since that Live-8 thing & it was the night of that event that I wrote this song. I apologise for all the swearing but sometimes that's the only thing that seems appropriate. It's in no way a criticism of Geldof & co. but I remember thinking at the time: "Where does engaging with these politicians/businessmen really get you?" - ( 12 months on & the cunts still haven't paid up as far as I can make out) - maybe the problem is something more ..... fundamental. Anyway, what do I know? I'm just a pampered rock star - but at least I think it's good to discuss this stuff. Don't you?"
Well, if you want to discuss this stuff with him, spend some time on MySpace. And while you're at it: sing-alongs are a lot easier when you have the lyrics at hand...
BTW: I can understand his frustration (although he claims it's "in now way criticism of Geldof & Co") around the likes of Bob Geldof, or, even more so, Bono. Am I the only who gets the feeling they do not only use the attention they normally get for a good cause, but also use good causes to get more attention? That they enjoy playing world leader every now and then? Or am I being too cynical and are they at least doing something? You tell me...

They sound quite good actually. Thanks for the tip. You wouldn't happen to be their manager, would you? :-)

It's easy to claim that 'at least [they]'re doing something' while most of us just sit around and do very little other than condemn the c*nts (nice one Jarvis) who are running the show.
Have to admit though I do share your cynicism. None of us can change the world single handedly but some of us are in a better position to make a difference than others. But it does all seem to be very self serving.
Cheers for the tip off Simon btw, I'll go and check them out now
